If I am not a "free -thinker" am I enslaved thinker?

when did the term free-thinker start being used. is it merely a euphemism for atheist or was it an actual movement with a founder. since atheist just means no-god in Greek i figured this was just an alternative term but i could be wrong. thus the tongue n; cheek manner of asking a serious question.
